36 Weeks, 1 Day

Today I had a great doctor's appointment!! Dr. Abbott says Violet's heartbeat is good, and that she is "not too big"! (that's good news for Mommy) After an internal exam she told me that the baby is really high. This would explain a lot of the uncomfortable pain up in my ribs, and shortness of breath. I won't be having another ultrasound unless she doesn't drop within the next few weeks. That being said, the Dr. told me she believes I'll be delivering closer to my August 25th due date and not within the next few weeks. My cervix is still completely closed, so Violet has plenty of time to gain some more weight before we see her! I was so glad that Mom was able to come with me today - so "Thanks MOM" - since Steve had to work! So far Violet has been a very good baby, and everything has been happening right on schedule as Dad pointed out to me this morning. Let's hope she keeps that up after she leaves Mom's tummy!

Here is the 36 update (Can you believe only 4 more of these to go?!):
"Your baby is gaining about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy hair that covered her body, as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath. Next week, your baby will be considered full-term. Most likely she's in a head-down position, but if she isn't, your practitioner may suggest scheduling an external cephalic version, where she'll try to turn your baby by manipulating her from the outside of your belly." - courtesy of babycenter.com

Test results back

I got my iron test results back last week. The nurse simply called to tell me to continue taking my iron supplements twice a day. Not much more info. than that, so I guess all is good!

I'm actually having one of those days at work where I just don't want to be here anymore! It's hard enough trying to find something to fill my mind-numbing 8 hours a day of staring at the computer - now I'm really in pain and uncomfortable while doing it. Needless to say, it makes for a very long day. I'm grateful for my job, it's a wonderful place to work. It's just that my particular position here is so BORING! I hope that when I get back from maternity leave there are some new responsibilities awaiting me!!!!

I have my 36 week appointment on Thursday and I think Mom is going with me because Steve will have to work. I am looking forward to seeing Dr. Abbott again since she has been on vacation! I am dying to know if Violet is in position for delivery!!

35 Weeks!!!!!

I think it's starting to set in that within a few more weeks my DAUGHTER will be here, in my arms, in my life forever! I am so extremely excited to meet her! I keep telling her that she has to wait 2 more weeks so I can hit the magic number 37 weeks, then she can come out. We'll see if she listens to me or not. My guess is probably not if she's anything like her Momma!

Monday night my Mom came over and we got Violet's room all set up the way I want it, and all the boxes in the closet (still packed from moving) unpacked and put away. The chair rail still needs to go up, and the pink needs touching up in some places, & we still need window treatments, but I can rest easier knowing if she came today, she would have a nice room to come home to!

I keep looking at Steve every night thinking how lucky we both are, and how lucky Violet is to have him for a father. He loves her so much already, I get overwhelmed when I think about the first time he gets to hold her, and be there for her right from the beginning. I am so lucky to have the Dad that I do, my only regret is that we didn't meet him sooner. I never knew what I was missing until then, believe me I was spoiled and loved and surrounded with lots family as a baby! I just keep thanking God that Steve is my partner in parenthood and we are doing this together from the very beginning.

As usual, here is the 35 week update:
"Your baby doesn't have much room to maneuver now that he's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (pick up a honeydew). Because it's so snug in your womb, he isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete — he'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight." - courtesy of babycenter.com

More testing

Well, at my last visit, the Dr. ordered another check of my iron levels. Results came back today confirmed that my iron levels are very low. They are having me come in Monday morning to do more bloodwork. Not sure yet what all that means. I am already on iron supplements, so I thought that was really the extent of what can be done. At least it explains why I've been so weak and tired! I'm certain it's nothing to be worried about or they would have had me come in today, but I'll keep everyone posted!

Have a great weekend!

34 Weeks!

Watch out world, there's a crazy hormonal pregnant lady on the loose!!! (and it's ME) Here are some ways to avoid being caught in the emotional fire-storm:
1. Please don't tell me I look tired, I already know!
2. Don't wake the sleeping beast - for any reason!!!
3. If you work with me, steer clear of candy bowl comments - I don't care if you don't like what's in there, you're lucky I filled it today, so get OVER it! :)
4. Keep me cool....if I start to sweat, run for the hills...
5. Offering a back rub can only help your situation!
I am quite sure that Daddy Steve could add a LOT more to this list, so maybe I'll just leave that to him. For now, this should keep most of you safe!

In all honesty, I am doing my very best to keep the irritability at bay, but some moments are literally un-controllable. Steve has really done a fantastic job of loving me despite the beast that lays within! I know it has to be hard on him but we've finally got a system (I think) that sort of works. When he says something that would potentially set me off I give him "the look" and he gives me "I'm sorry" and we can end it right there - lol!

Physically, I feel pretty great. I do have occassional back aches, VERY frequent bathroom trips, and some moments where it's hard to catch my breath. All of that is pretty easy to deal with and very standard for most pregnancies. Most days I just feel so lucky to have had such an un-complicated pregnancy and I hope the last weeks through my delivery remain the same. Now there's only 6 more weeks until we meet our daughter!

Update at 34 weeks:
"Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which she'll need to regulate her body temperature once she's born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies." - courtesy of babycenter.com

33 Weeks (and 2 days...)

Let's see.....what hasn't been happening this week?! Well, we are all moved into the new house in La Porte. Steve and I really love this house so much more than the old one. The ONLY thing going wrong right now is that we have no hot water. I have yet to take a shower in our new home. I have been showering at my Mom & Dad's, and as much as I enjoy being there, it's getting old! Long story short, the hot water heater had to be replaced and the guys are running into a lot of issues installing it!

So we are 33 weeks this week, and we have successfully completed our Lamaze Childbirth classes. Yes, we are now Lamaze Graduates!! woo hoo I really enjoyed most of the classes, we missed one last week because of the move, but I don't feel like we were slighted on anything. We both learned a lot of new things, but a lot of the course is common sense - to most people. Like, do you ever leave your child unattended in the bath to go answer the phone.....ummm...NO! duh! lol However, it's good to hear these and other warnings over and over because you can never be too careful, and so many infant deaths are preventable! Now, I have a lot more "what-if's" to obsess over - oh joy!

Okay Miss Violet, what is going on in Mommy's belly this week?:
"This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood. " - courtesy of babycenter.com

P.S. 47 MORE DAYS TO GO!!!!!! :)

32 Weeks & Moving Time!

We got the word yesterday morning that the deal is done on a new house, and we move in this week & weekend. We found one house that we really liked and decided to go for it. We were telling ourselves if it fell through, then we would just sign a 6 month lease at our current place and keep looking through December. Luckily, it all worked out, and we get to move now - which we had preferred to do anyway. We absolutely LOVE the new place. We went to get our key last night and looked around thinking about where everything will go, it was pretty exciting. Then we went home to begin the packing! Thank goodness for Steve, by the time I had arrived home from work he already had our spare/ computer room all boxed up. We stayed up until about midnight getting the living room and kitchen done, then this momma had to go to bed! We should start moving things tomorrow (maybe tonight) and be done by Sunday! whew! Pictures to come soon......

Not to forget the most important thing - we are 32 WEEKS (yesterday)!!! I've been feeling pretty good. I found out that I've gained 26 pounds so far with this pregnancy. I'm okay with that, and I'd like to not go over 35 extra pounds total, but I'm not going to loose sleep over it. Everything checked out great with Dr. Abbott yesterday, I love going in to hear the heartbeat! After that we headed to Pasadena to meet with our potential Pediatrician, Dr. Segura, who comes highly recommended by the Mustin family (thanks Terri & Greg). Of course, we loved him, and he made a special consideration to meet with us, something he normally doesn't do. He answered all our questions, and was so kind. I think Violet will be in good hands. So, there is one more thing checked off our baby "to-do" list.

Now, what is Violet Sophia up to this week?:
"By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she'll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb." - courtesy of babycenter.com
